WELL FED HEAD BOOKS Poetry Slam Season

Here are the dates for our upcoming poetry slams in 2007 and 2008. At least those that we know of and/or are willing to tell you about:

Thursday, September 27th @7:30 PM - Cover Poem Open Mic and Poetry Slam (at The Outland). This slam will start off with a cover open mic. That means, you should read someone else's work, not your own. After the open mic we will kick it with some original spoken word poetry. We like it spicy so bring the hot sauce. $3.00 Cover.

Thursday, October 25th @ 7:30 - Open Mic and Slam (at The Outland). If you want, you can dress up like the postman or bring your favorite prop, whatever works for you. $3.00 Cover.

Thursday, November 27th @ 8:00 - Thanksgiving Day Slam (at The Outland). It is really, really important that you bring Turkey Day themed poetry to this event. Pilgrims, American Indians, football or my drunk uncle would all be acceptable poetry topics for our first ever Thanksgiving Day Slam. Take a deep breath. Relax. You're with friends now.

Friday December 7th @ 8:00 PM - Head to Head Haiku Slam (First Friday Art Walk at Well Fed Head Books). Bring your original haiku to the Well Fed Head on December 7th for a Head-to-Head Haiku Slam. There will be ceremony. There will be fun. There will be haiku. $Free $Free $Free.

Monday, December 31st @ 8:00 PM - New Year's Eve Slam (First Night Event Downtown). We're going to ring in the New Year the right way. $50 first place prize to the winner. No cover charge... $Free $Free $Free.

Thursday, January 31st @ 7:30 PM (Doors open 7:00) - Signature Poem Open Mic and Women of the Ozarks Slam (at The Outland). It's winter. Brrrr. Now stop complaining about the cold and get downtown to The Outland. We've got heat, we've got beverages, we've got poetry. Bring It. The One. The poem everyone identifies with you or the poem that you want everyone to identify you with for the Signature Poem Open Mic. After the open mic, the MOpoetry slam is pleased to welcome Ed Mabrey – 2007 Indie World Poetry Slam Champ – to the stage as our Feature. Good heavens! Ed Mabrey is coming to Springfield! Then catch our first ever women's only slam, where we will crown an Ozarks Poetry Goddess. Plus, our entire poetry community will gather around the winner to send them to the first ever, Women of the World Poetry Slam in Detroit. We're psyched about it and you should be too.

Thursday, February 14th @ 9:00 PM - Valentines Day Love and Erotic Poetry Slam - (Well Fed Head Books). Take your honey or your sweet thing out to dinner then stop on by for a little more love. Oooh baby. You can be my poet anytime.

Thursday, March 27th @ 7:30 PM (at The Outland). There will be a slam on this day. It may be themed or it may not. There could be a secret password required.

Saturday, April 19th after 2:00 PM - Backwoods SlamOff Poetry Festival (Location in Webster County, Upper Finley River). That's right we're gonna get Webster county all over you. This will be an all day, all night, poetry, music, slam, open mic extravaganza. Is that how you spell extravaganza. I really hope so. Bring a tent, a cooler, your friends, nice dogs and a few of those ever so convenient collapsible lawn chairs. Oh, and don't forget the poetry.
